Teacher of the Year Award (i-TOYA) is an initiative by eKitabu in partnership with CEMASTEA that will see teachers compete by creating innovative ICT Integrated lessons in either Science, Technology or Mathematics. The i-TOYA award is geared towards promoting integration of ICT in teaching and learning and will be awarded to the best Mathematics and Science teachers in the country who develops and implements the best innovative ICT integrated lesson.
Competition is open to public secondary schools teachers teaching either Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry or Physics in Kenya. The lessons to be created should be ICT integrated lessons that focus on the promotion of 21st-century skills and STEM (Science, Technology, and Mathematics) aspects. The teachers will also be required to show how technology can be used to innovatively deliver content in order to make learning more enjoyable and engaging to the earners.
The nomination process consists of five phases which will see teachers first compete at the school level before the proceeding to sub-county level, county level, regional and finally to national level.
Winner prizes include computing devices and public recognition which will be awarded during the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) National Delegates Conference in 2017. The schools where the winning teacher comes from will also be recognized.
