Connected Learning Without the Internet

Inadequate learning facilities and the high cost of learning resources presents a big challenge when it comes to providing learners with quality learning resources, especially in semi-urban and rural areas. This has further been fuelled by the high cost of internet in most African countries which has made it even more difficult to access quality learning resources.

With the main aim of addressing this challenge, Tunapanda Institute has developed a gamified e-learning platform meant for delivering education content especially in areas with poor or no internet connection. The platform is able to deliver education content offline without the need for internet connection and issue digital badges upon completion of a course. It can also be hosted online.

Learners are able to engage with study materials, take quizzes, submit assignments and take notes while studying. The e-learning platform tracks the learner’s progress and performance and captures relevant data that can be used to improve the learning experience. It uses H5P course authoring tool for creating interactive and engaging HTML5 content hence eliminating the need for third-party course authoring tools. The platform can also get and record data from other different systems hence making it easier monitor the learner’s performance. It has a remote sync functionality which makes it easier to update the system and pull/push data to another instance of the platform.

Apart from education institutions, the platform can be adopted by different industries as it can be used as a tool for continuous professional development.

The platform has proved to be an invaluable resource in supporting learning at one of Tunapanda’s partner organization in Turkana, Northen Kenya, where it was recently implemented to support learning.
