eLearning Capacity Building
& LMS Enablement
Strengthening institutional capability to design, deliver, and sustain high-quality digital learning across health sciences programmes at a large Kenyan public university.
A large public university, through its College of Health Sciences, engaged me to lead an eLearning capacity-building initiative aimed at supporting the implementation and up-scaling of self-paced and distance learning across health-related academic programmes. While an LMS was already in place, the internal capability to use it effectively — from instructional design through to platform governance — was inconsistent across the institution.
Internal capacity to develop instructionally sound eLearning content, facilitate online learning consistently, and provide reliable LMS administration and user support was uneven across the college. The engagement had to work within a live institutional environment — no platform replacement was possible, and quality could not be sacrificed for speed.
The College of Health Sciences significantly strengthened its internal capability to design, deliver, and support eLearning independently. Faculty moved from inconsistent, ad-hoc use of the LMS to structured, pedagogically grounded online facilitation. The central team gained authoring proficiency and the platform governance capacity to sustain operations without external dependency.
"Sustainable eLearning at institutional scale depends on coordinated capacity building across instructional design, faculty practice, and platform governance — not on tools alone."
