Context

AG Group International was developing its Global Learning Hub (GLH) — a virtual online academy providing self-paced learning modules and certification to individuals in academic, vocational, and corporate organisations. As an associate eLearning developer and consultant, I was engaged to lead the technical design and implementation of the platform, build internal content development capability, and establish the quality assurance systems needed to sustain a growing course catalogue.

The GLH was designed from the outset to serve a globally distributed learner base across multiple sectors — requiring platform architecture, content standards, and development processes that could scale without fragmenting quality or learner experience.

Challenge & Constraints

Building a virtual academy capable of serving academic, vocational, and corporate learners across sectors and geographies — simultaneously — requires platform decisions, content standards, and team capability to be aligned from the beginning. Each dimension independently is manageable; all three together, under launch timelines, is the real design challenge.

🌐
Multi-sector, multi-audience delivery — the platform had to be designed for learners with fundamentally different contexts, goals, and prior experience, from university students to corporate professionals.
🏗️
No existing LMS infrastructure — the virtual learning environment had to be designed, customised, and configured from scratch while content development was already being planned in parallel.
👥
Newly assembled content development team — subject-matter experts and trainers needed to develop eLearning authoring skills (Articulate 360) without prior experience of instructional design or SCORM-compliant development.
📐
Absence of content standards — without agreed templates, storyboard formats, and quality benchmarks, the risk of inconsistent learner experience across modules was significant.
🔁
Need for pilot implementation before full launch — the platform and its first courses had to be tested under live conditions to surface usability and technical issues before opening to a wider learner base.
Decisions & Approach
01
Moodle VLE Setup & Custom Configuration
Set up and customised a Moodle-based Virtual Learning Environment tailored to AG Group International's academy model — configuring site architecture, user roles, course catalogue structure, and enrolment workflows for multi-sector delivery.
02
Trainer & Subject-Matter Expert Orientation — eLearning Concepts
Trained trainers and subject-matter experts on core eLearning concepts — including learning objectives, content chunking, and learner engagement principles — giving the content team a shared instructional language before authoring began.
03
Storyboarding & Articulate 360 Authoring Tool Training
Provided structured training on storyboarding and Articulate 360 for the newly assembled content development team — building the practical authoring capability needed to produce self-paced, interactive modules to a consistent technical standard.
04
eLearning Course Template Development
Developed reusable eLearning course templates in Articulate 360 — establishing visual design, interaction patterns, and navigation conventions that the team could apply consistently across all courses in the growing catalogue.
05
Coaching During Self-Paced Module Development
Provided hands-on coaching and instructional design support as team members developed their own modules — reviewing storyboards, giving structured feedback, and guiding design decisions to keep quality embedded in the development process.
06
Pilot LMS Implementation & Testing
Led the pilot implementation of the LMS — uploading initial courses, configuring learner access and tracking, and conducting structured usability testing before opening the platform to its first real cohort of learners.
07
Content Standardisation & Quality Assurance Introduction
Introduced content standardisation processes and a quality assurance review system — establishing the templates, review checklists, and approval workflows needed to maintain consistent learning experience as the course catalogue scaled.
Outcome & Impact

AG Group International successfully launched the Global Learning Hub as a functional, multi-sector virtual academy — with a configured Moodle VLE, an internally capable content development team, reusable course templates, and a quality assurance system in place. The organisation was equipped to grow its course catalogue sustainably without dependency on external development for each new module.

Key Insight

A virtual academy that scales well is built on three foundations set at the start: a well-configured platform, a capable internal team, and content standards that travel — any one of these without the others creates bottlenecks within the first growth cycle.
