eLearning Capacity Building and LMS Enablement - University of Nairobi
Strengthening institutional capability to design, deliver, and sustain high-quality digital learning across health sciences programmes.
Context
A large public university, through its College of Health Sciences, engaged me to lead an eLearning capacity‑building initiative aimed at supporting the implementation and up‑scaling of self‑paced and distance learning across health‑related academic programmes.
Challenge
While an LMS was already in place, internal capacity to develop instructionally sound eLearning content, facilitate online learning consistently, and provide reliable LMS administration and user support was uneven.
Constraints
- Wide variation in digital confidence and experience among lecturers
- The need to upskill both a central eLearning team and a large cohort of faculty simultaneously
- Pressure to scale digital learning delivery without compromising instructional quality
- Dependence on an existing Moodle LMS environment, with no scope for platform replacement
Decisions & Approach
- Led training for the core eLearning team on developing interactive, self‑paced online modules using Articulate 360
- Designed and facilitated training for a cohort of 56 lecturers on setting up, facilitating, and supporting online and distance learning within the LMS
- Led a series of hands‑on workshops on Moodle LMS administration, maintenance, and user support to strengthen internal platform governance
- Developed standardized storyboards and Articulate 360 templates to improve instructional consistency and development efficiency
- Provided ongoing instructional design and technical leadership to the development team during course creation
- Conducted structured instructional design workshops to align digital content with pedagogical best practice
Outcome & Insight
The College significantly strengthened its internal capability to design, deliver, and support eLearning independently.
